Many People Love Spending Their Spare Time Doing Their Own Bottling And Kegging

By Jessica Phillips

Are you looking for the best way to store your home- brewed beer? There are two methods of storing beer that you can consider. The two options are bottling and kegging, and both have great benefits to it.

If you want to store beer in bottles, then using commercial bottles will be a cheaper option for you. One benefit for using glass bottles for storing beer would be that it is strong and wont dent and twist easily. Keep in mind that you will use a lot more effort to remove the old labels, and you need to take precaution when cleaning the bottles out. Using brown bottles will be your best bet as they will block out UV light and prevent an awful smell from developing in your bottle.

You will have to put boiling hot water inside your glass bottle when it's emptied out. This will prevent harmful bacteria from making the inside of your bottler their home. You are going to have to properly sterilize all your bottles before pouring beer into them. Experts recommend using your dishwashers heating cycle to kill all the harmful bacteria.

When it is time to put the beer inside the bottles, don't forget to add a little corn sugar to it. The sugar will give the yeast the right amount of food that it needs to carbonate the beer. You will need to first put the caps for the bottles in a pot on the stove and boil them a little. Once they have been boiled, you can place them tightly on the bottle so that it is sealed.

If you are planning to rather keg your craft beer, it is good to know that this method is a lot more expensive than bottling. You'll need to double check that you have cleaned the keg extremely well before you use it. If you are going to keg your craft beer, you'll be able to have complete control over the amount of carbonation you need. Using too much carbonation can result in the beer not tasting very good.

You should keep in mind that the sizes of the kegs are about 25"-27" high. People prefer to purchase another refrigerator that can cater for the height of the keg. That is why most people find that kegging is more expensive then bottling beer.

It is vital that you sterilize your keg properly before you use it. You don't want any bad microorganisms breeding inside your keg. Once you have sterilized your keg it is time to pour your homebrew into it. As soon as your beer has fermented, you can place it in your keg and pop the cap on. You will need to remove the oxygen from your beer by tugging on the relief valve.

Now that you understand the two different methods, you will need to decide which option you would prefer to use. You will be able to market and sell your product at various pubs and restaurants. The price you will be able to sell your craft beer would depend on Kegging and bottling.
