Suitable Beef Breeds Are Irish Black Cattle

By Annabelle Holman

For a long time, man has domesticated animals for varying uses. One of such is for food production. It was initially adequate to keep natural species of these animals but this has been overtaken by events. The population is much higher now and feeding it requires much more scientific intervention. For such a reason, scientists have come up with better breeds like Irish black cattle for additional yield per unit animal kept.

A rise in demand for more beef for American industries and formed the root cause of these developments. Doctor Lush noted this demand and responded appropriately. It was way back in early twentieth century, at around 1930. This scientist and company worked tirelessly while developing their dream cattle. Exotic breeds and or species were used as sources of genes. A long time elapsed before Boney made it a success in 1960.

Physically, Irish blacks are completely black as their name suggest. Occasionally, a red calf may be born amongst blacks. Frame size may be described as average and with sound legs. A closer view reveals average muscled body of a strong animal.

Farmers keeping this same animal have since then joined hands to form an association. It has its vision and mission with one main objective of protecting their interests in their livestock. It is a nonprofit making organization which allows new members to join. However, before one becomes a member, a gene examination has to be carried out to verify identity of animals in question.

Rearing Irish blacks come with many advantages and similar experience come when consuming their beef. Ever since they came into being, farmers have followed a relatively strict line-breeding. Results are therefore achievement of pure breeds which are directly linked to quality of calves produced and consequently their final yield.

Keeping these cattle has made life a little easier for farmers. All of them thrive well in every part of American states. This is regardless of altitude; whether highlands or low lands. It can adequately resist common diseases as brisket. Similarly, a variation in climatic conditions as humidity and cold does not impair its survival rate. The animal has adequate hair to withstand winter times. In addition, one needs not to worry about feeding it; the animals can feed on any grass present in the environment.

Gestation period of this breed is short and therefore enable quick reproduction of new calves. Farmers must not wait too long to get additional numbers in their herds. On a similar note, fertility rate has been proven to be so high. A single bull in the herd can serve up to 140 cattle successfully. A further advantage is that one does not spend too much caring for the herd. They easily get acclimatized and suffer no much disease.

Keeping species like this one is so much rewarding. Individuals with interest should make their desires happen. Similarly, clients and consumer should have a taste of products and byproducts from these breeds and they will not be disappointed.
