Coffee Clubs Are Sprouting All Over The World

By Daphne Bowen

The coffee enthusiast enjoys their first cup and often likes to share a drink with other like minded people through out the day. Some light conversation with pleasant company, sharing new flavors and recipes contributes to the growing number of coffee clubs. These can be found on the internet where a subscription is required or a person can start their own with some friends.

In an instant a person can find dozens of subscription services on the internet that will send a bag of java on a regular basis. There are also discounts available for members and free items for joining. If you enjoy sipping alone or with close friends and family this may be the type that will work best for you.

However, if you crave more company, then gather with others that share your enthusiasm. The people that make up the group is just important as that first cup in the morning. Decide if you want to open it up to everyone in your work group, where you live or worship, go to school, or open to the public by putting up notices on public boards and on social media. The one thing everyone should have in common is an appreciation of coffee.

Why is everyone meeting other than for the coffee or is that the only reason. Discuss and decide what the goals of the club are going to be. There may be a desire to perform charity work, get involved in social events, garden together, or just talk about the neighbors. Seriously, if the only reason is to learn more about the java beans, roasting, and brewing, then that is an ample enough reason. There is a lot to learn on that topic.

Also, agree on the size the group can grow to or remain at. If a large group is the goal, then it might be wise to elect officers and one or two main contact persons. In addition, the group might want to have a monthly newsletter to keep members current on what the group is doing and what they have achieved.

Something everyone might want to try is going to different locales to taste different blends. Have the meetings there or for a special outing and make it a fun experience. You can even do this with larger groups just be certain to plan ahead and check with the proprietor to set a date.

Another really fun idea is to have a video meeting with another group from either a different country or city. Sharing ideas and recipes with others is always a good idea.

Social media is a useful tool if you want to do this on a much larger scale. Find a large enough venue to hold the regular gatherings and have a speaker or representative from a coffee company. Charge an admission to cover the cost of the drinks or hold the meeting at a shop where the owner agrees to save enough room for the group in exchange for sales.

Have fun with this idea. Do things together, go on a day trip to taste a different blend or brew. Sure, the coffee is an important part of the gathering but so are the people you get to know and meet.
