Our constantly shrinking world has made it possible that many faiths and ideas are shared across borders as not done before. A case in fact is the wider spread of the faith of Islam and its practices, particularly in what it sees things as being forbidden or not. The concepts of halal and haram, allowed and forbidden, are something that many are now becoming more familiar with. And while on your field exercises, you may have seen your Muslim brothers eating Halal MRE, and you are wondering what this can be.

Halal when applied to food means that it is any food or victuals that are prepared in a prescribed clerical fashion under the tenets of the Muslim faith. It is more than just slapping on a label and selling any food, for many familiar with this kind of food will know if it is the real deal or not. Halal food is required to show on its ingredient packets most of the time the source, preparation methods and overall processing procedure.

As such, according to the Islamic faith, this kind of food will not have any kind of pork related or pork derivatives, it will also have no MSG seasoning or contain anything that hints of blood or alcohol in it. It will also not contain any animal based gelatins. It will however most certainly include cereals and grains, diary products, selected herbs and spices, and also fruits and vegetables.

This is due to most likely increasing demand, but also many shrewd businessmen see this also as a turning point in profit margins as it is becoming more profitable. However, this kind of food preparation may make the cost of selling it quite high also.

Other consumer items have been covered under this preparation method as well, which includes clothing and cosmetics. Commercial ventures such as tourism and hotels have been influenced by the movement as well, with hotels offering separate facilities for men and women and also not serving alcoholic drinks or items.

In term of military applications such as US Army Meal Ready to Eat packs, this method of food preparation is done as well. It is definitely more expensive to do but theoretically it is also argued that it will also result in a healthier and better meal as well for soldiering.

The MRE prepared in this way will not have certain specific ingredients. They will not contain MSG or asparteme, sucralose and a majority of preservative sugars, and also will not have any trans fats. The lack of these ingredients in theory will make the soldier be less fatigued and less jumpy on the field of battle.

Determining whether this product is for you or not really or not is sometimes not a question of taste but also of how much you are more willing to spend, The MRE prepared this way is around thirty percent much more expensive than the ordinary MRE you are used to but remember it is also much healthier as well.
