Cook Better With Rubs And Seasonings

By Frank Anderson

One thing that trumps a lot of amateur cooks is getting the flavors right. Although a recipe may be the most authentic way to create a dish, there are some tricks that give it something special. Like ground ginger gives a peppery flavor that works with desserts and certain vegetables. When the right rubs and seasonings are used, there is little room for error.

Although some who are learning their way around the kitchen may not know about organizing, there are many ways to keep these fresh. Those seasonings and spices that fill the air with aroma will keep that same fresh scent when they are stored properly. Even if a person has a small kitchen, there is an inexpensive solution.

There are many inexpensive premixed seasonings and spices on the market but the majority of these contain salt and fillers. For those who are picky about their flavors, going cheap is a waste of time because experienced cooks end up adding more to the recipe. So the best measure is to seek a brand that values quality first.

There are also spice rack units that can be added to any wall that does not obstruct anything. Heavy duty adhesive is a nice alternative to using hand tools and can be used for mounting the unit. While these may take time to adhere properly, it is worth the wait. Most modern adhesives go on dry and can be removed with a simple pull.

When choosing a product, quality says a lot because users can tell whether something is made fresh or loaded with preservatives. While some premium products may look like the cheaper versions, it is all in the freshness factor. Not all brands made in a large factory care about adding freshly dried or ground herbs, since it is cheaper to use fillers that have little to no flavor.

Most kitchen cooks find they can improve their current recipe set by stepping outside of their comfort zone. While there is nothing wrong with having the basics along with garlic or onion seasoning, adding a little extra can go a long way. When products are kept fresh, there is no need to add a lot. The best rule of thumb is to go with a teaspoon for every four servings and only add a little at a time until the desired flavor profile is achieved.

Using premixes seasonings can save busy cooks a lot of time. Rubs are growing in popularity with those who eat animal protein. Although some like to use these for grilling meats, most home cooks realize that these work just as well with oven or stovetop cooking.

Using different flavors in cooking is what brings a little excitement to the table. By using a quality product, it normally does not take much so there is little room for failure. Anyone who is willing to learn about food types and flavor profiles realizes that they can have a lot of fun trying out new things. Whatever the outcome, it is less expensive and much healthier than eating out every day.
