Gaining Popularity Of Kosher Meals

By Brenda Evans

There are several different religious affiliations present today. The Jewish religion is mainly practiced in Israel and other Jewish communities in different parts of the world. They have very strict feeding laws and regulations that only accept the consumption of kosher meals. This is in accordance to laws in the Torah of Moses. Rabbis interpret and explain these feeding habits. This is because they are considered well learned in all aspects of religious matters. Certain changes are made to keep up with the emerging trends in the current food industry.

The close readers of the bible, specifically the Torah, notice that, vegetarianism was highly encouraged and even commanded in the earlier days. As time went by, certain animals and their products were legalized. There are strict rules that limit the type of animals eaten. For animals, any land creature that chews cud and its feet have split hooves is considered kosher. This excludes any animal of prey and four others that are prohibited like the pig, camel, hyrax and hare. In addition, a pious ritual slaughterer must explicitly slaughter the animal.

Only fish with scales and fins was allowed among all sea creatures. Birds of prey and scavengers were forbidden. Those allowed were the traditionally eaten ones like chicken, duck, turkey and geese. In addition, certain products from illegalized animals are also not allowed or considered fit for consumption. These include milk from animals like the camel eggs from birds of prey as well as meat that are prepared together with dairy products.

Today, these Jewish meals are considered to be better in terms of health and safety. For this reason, they have been in high demand in the last few years. This has created a boom in the industry with many companies producing and distributing the foodstuff. Even though most of the customers who demand these products do not understand the religious implications, they appreciate its purity and safety.

Regulatory authorities in the industry issue certifications for compliance. They strictly observe, investigate and ensure adherence in the processing, preservation and storage. All food that is legal to eat is clearly labeled as such. This includes processed meals, slaughtered meat and dairy products. The reason for this strictness is that today there are many preservatives that contain impure products not eaten by Jews.

The reason why this industry is growing is due to increased demand for these foods by both Jews and non-Jews alike. Many people are very weary of the many products that are added for preservation and flavor. This is because of cases of allergies and the belief that these additives are impure. A good example is the dislike of gluten.

This trend has made many big processing companies like Coca Cola to spend millions of dollars annually advertising and participating in kosher programs. This is because they have realized that many people are increasingly leaning more on these products because they assume they are pure. The many regulations and rules governing the processing and packaging are trusted. People are usually afraid of the unknown.

The fact is that of all kosher purchases made only a small fifteen percent is made in accordance to religious observance. Most individuals seek healthy and quality food. Soon, the industry will attract many who eat organic foods and lead organic lifestyles.
