Tempting Traditional Australian Food Recipes

Australians are known for certain foods which really stand out. Much of these have become a tradition and they really stand out. Everyone around the world will tend to know more about certain things more than others. However, a lot of people are also surprised to find various foods which pop up on the menu as well. These are things that one will discover more about when looking into traditional Australian food recipes.

The foods vary from healthy meat from and emu. This can be used for a pizza topping. There are other topping used for a meat pie that are very popular. Cakes and biscuits are a favourite among the people in Australia. One of these is Pavlova which is usually made for a big celebration. There are biscuits that go back a long way. Some of them are gourmet and others are more filling.

The lamington is not something that many Australians can refuse. After all, it is the national cake of the country. It is a basic sponge cake, but topped with chocolate icing and coconut. You won't pass a cafe without seeing one of these. Most people will have a cup of tea or coffee with their lamington. There are also other subtle variations that you will discover.

Wheat Bix is another favourite of the average Aussie and always has been. It doesn't matter how old you are, Aussies will boast that Wheat Bix is unique to them because it is smaller and sweeter and this sets it above the rest, making it quite average in the rest of the world. It is definitely a favourite to have for breakfast. But it can also make a great snack.

Another alternative to a favourite breakfast which an Australian may consider is Vegemite on toast. This can also be something that one will have as a snack at just about any time of the day. It is usually something that the average tourist will turn their nose up at this, it is a firm favourite.

Cakes and biscuits are a keen favourite. Some of them go back a long way and some of them have been recently invented and have spread their wings all over the world. For example, the Anzac biscuit is a fine example of a great snack that goes back centuries which lasts a long time and will basically fill you up. This was made especially for soldier in the World War one to help keep them going.

Another example of a tasty treat are lamington which is now the national cake, eaten by everyone in restaurants, cafes and bistros. The vanilla ice is another cake which is more of a delicate slice. Some people will claim that this is a French invention. However, although the pastry is from France originally, Australians say that they are responsible for the vanilla filling inside this delicious pastry.

Chicken parmigiana can be found in all of the pubs in the country. It is a dish that began in Italy, but has been modernized as it moved down to Australia. It is basically a chicken schnitzel with a sauce made up of tomato and cheese. There may be ham or prosciutto with the schnitzel as well. This is usually served with a beer and the two go very well together.
