The Process Involved When Making Flavored Toothpicks

By Roseann Hudson

Oral health is a major contributor to the overall body health. That is why dentists worldwide encourage proper oral hygiene at all times. The major contributor to poor oral health is the presence of food particles in between teeth which encourage the multiplication of bacteria. These bacteria excrete toxic materials that affect the wellbeing of the teeth and gums. To prevent this, you should use a toothpick after every meal to eliminate all the food particles. As such, flavored toothpicks should always form a part of your monthly shopping so as to improve your oral health and that of your family.

The cinnamon is usually in liquid form. A small amount is poured into the airtight container that you have. The lid should be the right size so that no air goes in or out. The jar should be slightly taller than the sticks so that they stand properly inside and allow for the lid to fit nicely.

The next step is to put the number of wooden sticks that you want to make toothpicks from. They should be the height of the container so that it can be closed easily. So as to maximize the container, ensure that they completely fill all the spaces that are available. Five hundred would be a good number for a medium sized container.

After you have carefully arranged the sticks inside the container, you need to close it tightly. You need to ensure the lead is firm enough so as to avoid any form of leakage that could lead to the loss of the cinnamon. You should then go ahead and invert the container in order to allow for even distribution of the flavor inside the sticks.

The process takes approximately twelve hours to be complete. It is best done overnight when there is no light which is direct on the container. This amount of time is enough for the sticks to absorb the aroma adequately. If you leave it for a short time, it will not be adequately soaked up. Leaving it for too long would be unnecessary because the sticks will have reached their saturation point.

In the morning, remove the sticks from the container. Place them on a non-porous surface so that they do not lose the moisture they gained throughout the night. Spread them on this surface and leave them to dry under direct sunlight. Make sure the surface that you use is clean so that they do not get contaminated.

To determine whether the sticks are completely dry, you need to feel them with your fingers. If there are no stains left on your fingers, you can be sure that they are dry. The only job left would be to collect the sticks using disinfected hands so as to avoid germs.

The last step is to pack them. Do this in an air tight container so that they do not lose the flavor with time. If they are for home use, keep them in a tight container. Those for sale should be sealed properly too. If there is any cinnamon that remained in the container, tightly close it in and leave it for use next time.
