Discovering Halal MRE Products And Packaging

By Deborah Walker

When an individual thinks of the military or a natural disaster, one often thinks of rations. Rations are prepackaged foods which are ready-to-eat. Whether due to its presence in both Islamic and non-Islamic countries, or its longstanding reputation as a great company, several governmental and other organizations now use this provider. Whatever the case, by providing a Halal MRE to someone in need, the company is most likely saving lives.

J&M, one the primary companies providing these products was founded over eighteen years ago. At the time of its inception, it was created to help the Department of Defense and the military. After which, it also became involved in humanitarian relief efforts and natural disasters. While having taken a brief break, the company is once again shipping product to a number of facilities and locations.

When it comes to providing food, service is often key. When it comes to emergencies, it is important for these products to be delivered as quickly as possible. If not, FEMA and other organizations can often run into issues like those found during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. In this, and other cases, had food or water been delivered more quickly, there may have been fewer casualties, injuries or looting.

Each main entree contains 1200 calories. While there are calories associated with the condiments, these are not included in the 1200 calorie count. The tightly packed pouches have enough nutrients to feed troops at war, victims of a natural disaster and emergency personnel. It should be noted that while foil packages are good for several years, not all products in an assembled have this same shelf life.

While these food packets have along shelf life, most are intended for immediate consumption. In some cases, like members of the military or emergency response personnel, these rations can safely be stored up and until the end-of-life shelf date on the package. Whatever the case, there is no doubt these FREs have and will continue to feed the hungry and save lives.

When it comes to old school rations like those served in Viet Nam and earlier conflicts, people often had no idea of ingredients. As the rations are often commercially based brand name products with ingredient and caloric information, individuals have more knowledge related to calories and content. While there are end-of-life shelf dates on many rations, organizations still advise individuals against eating any food, especially rations beyond this date.

By hosting ready-to-ship products for immediate use rather than keeping a large inventory in storage, the company also helps cut down cost. A reduction in cost that serves multiple entities from the military and other organizations to taxpayers. One of the best aspects of this process is that those in need are also getting better, fresher meals.

Ultimately J&M and related companies sell products to a variety of government, relief, volunteer and military organizations. In each case, without these rations, lives would most likely be lost either due to disease, hunger, food borne illness or despair. While most of these companies do keep some inventory on hand, it is often best when agencies and organizations can place orders in advance.
