Outdoors With Kosher Emergency Meals

By Dennis Ward

Eating food that has been prepared under the strictest of supervision is a must when wanting to keep kosher in the outdoors. Kosher emergency meals are varied and will tempt even the fussiest of eaters. There are varying packages up for grabs to tantalize taste buds when wanting meat, milk and even parev dishes.

There are many rules that are practiced and adhered to when consuming products of this nature but in simplicity it is not that complicated to do. For example, meat foodstuffs is not allowed to be prepared with dairy products. This is a basic rule and one that is practiced by observant Jews the world over.

Parev dishes are neutral meaning that they can be eaten with both meat or dairy ingredients. Examples of these would be vegetables boiled in water and using a parev pot. This means that no milk or meat would have been prepared using a pot that parev ingredients are prepared.

All in all as a consumer one does not have to worry about these processes as the meals are stamped by an authority prior to purchase. All one has to know is that a Rabbinical authority has approved the food as being fully kosher. Stamps can be found on the packaging stating which court of Law oversaw its preparation.

Dairy products on the other hand will include any item where milk has been used in its preparation. These would include items such as yogurt, cheese and other off shoots of milk such as desserts that have been made with milk. When preparing meat products it is important not to use dairy ingredients at all as this will render what is called a treif or unkosher product.

Camping out or going on extended hikes or bush trails can be hard on the body and it is at these times one's treat is the food one takes a long. If thinking about going on extended trails of five to six days and longer then one will want to be prepared when it comes to food. It is best to pack exactly what is going to be consumed at each and every meal.

It is best practice to make a menu for each and every day so as not to miss even snack times. In this way one can pack a pack accordingly whilst optimizing storage space in the pack. This also allows one to keep its weight to a minimum as heavy and over burdensome packs can mean the difference between an enjoyable outing and one that turns out to be just too strenuous.

Keeping kosher is not as complicated as it sounds. There are basic rules one must adhere to and a description of these can be found online. All this can be accomplished on the Internet where food of this kind can be ordered and in so doing preparing oneself for an outdoor outing in the making.
