By Marquerite Velasquez

Every state has its own official motto, flag and animal, but some states have a special official food or dessert. Here are just a few examples of special sweet treats that are beloved by the inhabitants of some of our individual states.

It might be surprising but truth is Florida has a State Pie being the Key lime Pie. You will find this particular tart that is a meringue-topped dessert to be made out of key limes which for a fact is abundant in the famous Florida Keys. Even when records show that it officially became state pie only in 2006, Floridians have been known to be making this particular pie since the late 1800s.

Several other states also have official state pies. Maine's state fruit is the blueberry and the state pie is the blueberry pie. Maine also has an official state treat, which is the Whoopie Pie. The world's largest Whoopie Pie, which weighed more than 1,000 pounds, was creating in Maine. Massachusetts also has a state pie, the Boston cream pie, which is actually a cake comprised of layers of sponge cake separated by vanilla custard and topped with a chocolate glaze. Massachusetts also has a state cookie, the chocolate chip cookie.

Still, other states find it enjoyable to have sweet treats. For Minnesota it is the blueberry muffin that is their official state muffin. And for New Mexico it is that unique cinnamon and anise flavored treat known as bizcochito that is their official state cookie. Even when Utah has no official dessert the state snack food for them is Jell-O. Highly famous after the St. Louis World Fair in the year 1904, the ice cream cone eventually became the official state dessert of Missouri.

While California doesn't have an official food or dessert, there's no denying that the citizens of the Golden State love a delicious treat. If you love ice cream and other frosty treats and are near Los Angeles, consider taking a trip to the Culver City ice cream shop YoKuMon is an excellent idea.
