Can Olive Oil Help Diabetics?

By Bob Oliver

It goes without saying that there are some causes for diabetes that stand out more than others. One can make the argument that lifestyle has the most to do with this while others will say that it's the food that is eaten that is the greatest indicator. If it's truly a case of latter, though, I have to believe that there is a lot that can be said about the Mediterranean diet. Whether it's the olive oil that's your biggest focus or not, it's been said that going Mediterranean can help to lower the risk of, and combat, diabetes.

According to a report that was posted on WebMD, there appears to be a link associated with diabetes and the utilization of the Mediterranean diet. Nineteen studies were focused on and, when totaled, they entailed more than 162,000 individuals. In any event, what was shown in these studies was that those who took up the Mediterranean diet over the course of time had a 21 percent lower risk of developing diabetes over time. After looking deeper into what this particular diet entails, it's not hard to see why.

While it's clear that the Mediterranean diet itself has a number of products to consider, you may not fully understand what it is that the diet in question is all about. It's apparent that many different products can come into play, healthful ones like olive oil and fish being seen amongst them. As you can imagine, it's because of the combination of these products that the risk of diabetes is lessened. Is it any wonder why going Mediterranean is supported by various authorities, Bellucci Premium being one such example?

When it comes to the studies that were spoken about before, there were both Europeans and non-Europeans seen. The Mediterranean diet is, in my view, easily one of the most typical outside of the United States but does this necessarily mean that it hasn't branched out? Given the fact that the United States has seen the benefits of said diet in recent times, this is not true anymore. One of the reasons why going Mediterranean is preferred is, as you can imagine, in its ability to lower the risk of diabetes.

There are various ways to ensure that your risk of developing diabetes is as low as possible. Exercising is just one instance that can prove most useful but it seems like most will agree that lowering sugar intake is the best course of action. In fact, various foods can come into effect and I believe that this is where the Mediterranean diet will be able to stand out more so than anything else. With olive oil brought into effect, the diet in question is made that much stronger.
